Exhibition: Alfredo Jaar “Let there be light”

From 10 October to 10 December, at ING Cultural Center, 6 place Royale, 1000 Brussels

A unique selection of outstanding photographs, installations and video projections created by the internationally renowned Chilean artist Alfredo Jaar.

For the artist the focus of this project is the issue of human rights and the problem of representation : the dichotomy between photography and violence, suffering and pain. The selection of photographs and films includes works related to the African continent. And will present works relating to Sudan, Angola, South Africa as well as examples from the seminal Rwanda project (1994-2000). Alfredo  Jaar analyses, with a considerable regard for his subjects, the role of the media in the transmission of clichés, of spectacularity or victimisation related to social and political events.
